Unit1 Simulated Work Experience

My 2nd year simulated work experience partner is Hiba Jad, it’s a great honor to team up with her and experience working together.

Project Brief

The project is named “The Dream Catcher”,this project tells a story about an elf who devouring people’s dreams and breaking into a little boy’s bedroom and eventually becoming a friend. This is a rather dreamy and soft story. The environment design, character design and color management of partner are all excellent, and it is a project with a fairly high degree of pre-completion.

Screen shots

Hiba started by showing me her work, and I showed her my past work, showing her what kind of art I could do to see if there was anything she wanted me to do.

After a while, I showed her my work and realized that there were a lot of things we hadn’t been paying attention to, which made things troublesome and my work useless.

First, I asked her whether the perspective of the background bed was correct, and later she found that she did not give me the formal background materials, and my key frame was drawn on the draft. Secondly, I found that the material of the animation segment in my hand was a little short and the rhythm was too fast. Even so, I forgot to ask Hiba about the time. The final result of the discussion was that I was actually required to adjust the rhythm appropriately and extend the time. There were too many points that we didn’t take into account and went straight into production, which I found fatal in hindsight, and I started to appreciate the importance of workflow.

Yes, when I later tried to match the environment to the previous keyframes, I realized it was too late, which meant I had to redo it all. If this happened in commercial animation, I think it would be ridiculous and devastating for the producers.

My camera angle suggstion

In addition to this, I also suggested a shot design aspect and made it into a dynamic storyboard. At that time, I just finished the Filmmaking Lecture. I found that although the project had a three-act structure, the Missionary Statement was not very clear, and the climax and ending part seemed a little redundant — it took too long. At the end of informing Hiba of these suggestions, I think it is the director’s decision whether to adopt them or not. I hope my suggestions are constructive.:)
